asterisk is an association of genderqueer people. We work towards making policies more inclusive, creating visibility, and furthering the political and medical autonomy of non-cisnormative people. We strive for an inclusive society beyond the gender binary.
The genderqueer community faces systemic oppression of our rights to bodily autonomy, self-determination, and recognition of identity. Genderqueer people are often excluded in conversations that are crucial to the process of securing our basic human rights. We want to ensure that our voices are heard and included in decision-making conversations relevant to our rights. To that end, we aim to educate diverse audiences on genderqueer rights issues and work towards inclusive policy changes in (local) institutions.
We use the term genderqueer as it is used by the community at the moment, as an umbrella term inclusive of all identities that oppose biological and binary thinking of gender in the Eurocentric/Christian context.
